Design Build

Security Forces Facility Enhancement

Beale Air Force Base

The scope of this project was to provide design/ build services to construct a 1,200 SF consolidated storage addition to existing Building 2557 at Beale AFB. The additional 1,200 SF pre-engineered metal facility addition provides Beale AFB 940th Civil Engineering squadron with additional storage space for essential items. The North Star team successfully provided design/build services that met and exceeded all contractual requirements. Project specifics included: extension of existing fire sprinkler protection, fire alarm and notification system, upgrade existing electrical service, electrical panels and HVAC equipment to meet new load requirements. All additional new finishes had to match existing building finishes.

Rodeo Valley Trail Bridges

National Park Service

This National Parks Department project involved design and installation of a 12’ x 180’ steel pedestrian bridge, spanning an environmentally sensitive area of the Marin Headlands. Demolition and removal of two existing bridges was also performed within the same area. Due to the nature of this treasured natural location, particular care was taken by all North Star crews to avoid disturbing the creek and surrounding areas during pile driving and bridge abutment work. Substantial trail redesigns (to afford all season access) as well as re-alignments, re-grading and restoration of vegetation in and around existing trails were also successfully completed.

Recce Point Roof Replacement

Beale Air Force Base

This Design-Build project consisted of replacement of standing seam metal roofing systems for two (2) buildings:

Building 24081 Club House Replacement of 40,000 SF of standing seam roof system including demolish/recycle of existing roof system, repairing all damage to existing roof decking, installation of new ice/water underlayment, installation of new mechanically seamed metal panels, installation of new permanent Fall Protection anchors, replacement gutters and downspouts, and installation of new roof access hatch with interior access ladder. Metal panels were form-rolled onsite directly to roof structure to provide eave to ridge continuous panels.

Building 1023 Reece Town New standing seam metal roof overlay on an 80,000 SF roof including installation of “roof hugger” system that attached to building structural components providing structural integrity for overlay system, sealing existing roof to prevent corrosion, installation of new mechanically seamed standing-seam metal panels (metal panels were continuous from eave to ridge- no seams), installation of new permanent Fall Protection anchors, replacement of gutters and downspouts. Metal panels were form-rolled onsite and directly onto the roof structure.

Gold Lake Boat Launch Facility

USDA Forest Service

This project was a design-build project in the beautiful Lakes Basin Recreation Area of Plumas County, California. The existing boat launch and parking lot were repaired and upgraded with expanded safer vehicle and trailer parking, energy efficient solar lighting, accessible stalls and path of travel compliant with the Architectural Barrier Act. Construction also included expanded site grading, relocation and addition of boulder bollards, an upsized drainage culvert, and a new concrete facility sign. The project was completed 2 months ahead of schedule which allowed the facilities to be used during the peak summer season.

J St Gas Station Roof Project

Beale Air Force Base, CA

A design-build roof project with interesting challenges, as the existing building had been determined unfit to support the weight of a new roof structure. The result of these considerations was a 5,800 square foot self-supporting and seismically separate standing seam roof supported by 8 steel columns affixed to steel reinforced concrete grade beam footings, encompassing the existing market and garage building without adding any weight to the building itself. Advance scheduling coordination, construction techniques and vigilant site safety allowed the roof structure’s erection to continue in tandem with the normal business routine of the busy service station and market location, with no unplanned interruptions to the business itself.
